TRAINED DOGS
The mission of Skyline K9 is to provide increased independence and quality of life for people with disabilities through highly trained service dogs. We honor and promote the nurturing bond between dogs and humans. We strive to provide affordable services for everyone.
MISSION
ELIGIBILITY
In order to be eligible for a service dog from us, you must be diagnosed with a disability by a licensed medical or mental health professional. During the application process, we will ask for a letter from your medical or mental health professional stating that you fit the legal definition of disabled and they recommend a service dog as part of your treatment plan. You must live in the United States to be eligible for a service dog from us.
We do not train guide dogs, seizure alert dogs, or heart rate alert dogs, but may be able to refer you to an organization that does.
LOCATION
We are currently located in Fairbanks, Alaska, and Team Training is held at our facility here, as well as public locations throughout the area.
APPLICATION
To apply for one of our service dogs, please contact us and we will send you an online application. Our application process involves filling out a questionnaire, an interview, and background check.
COST
Raising and training a service dog costs over $45,000. Our goal is to keep the cost as low as possible, and we do not charge our clients the full price. Our current cost for a service dog is $15,000. Payment plans, grants, and scholarships may be available. 25% of the total price is due when your application is approved and you are ready for us to start the training process . We will occasionally have partially trained or started dogs for sale at a lower price.
TEAM TRAINING
Team Training is a mandatory 3 week course at the end of the dog's training, right before placement and graduation. This allows the client and service dog to learn how to work as a team. The client will work one-on-one with the trainer and dog for a minimum of 5 days a week.
BREEDS
We typically work with our client to figure out what breed best matches your lifestyle and the tasks you need. Most of the time, we will use German Shepherds, Labrador Retrievers, and Golden Retrievers. If a smaller dog is a better fit, we may use an English Cocker, miniature poodle, or Papillion. All of our dogs come from either a responsible breeder or a rescue/shelter.
